Ice Water Angel Food Cake

"I clipped this from The Scottsdale Living Newspaper; it's a heritage recipe. It comes from a three-generation Arizona family (Olson) and dates back to WWII. I thought the use of Ice Water, was interesting The Cool Whip Frosting recipe is recipe #369221.."

  • Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; add vanilla.
  • Remove ice from water and add 1 1/2 c water alternately with sifted flour in 3 additions, beating well after each addition; add baking powder.
  • Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  • Bake in three greased 9"layer pans (or one 9x14 pan) at 375 for 25 minute.
  • Do not overbake.
  • Frost with your choice of frosting or Cool Whip Frosting.
