This is so wonderful! I grew up in the Salish/Kootenai Nation in Montana and have wanted to teach my sons about neighboring Nations. This tastes like home, and at 6 and 5 years old it's easy enough that we can make it together and tell stories and talk while we enjoy it! Their favorite is covering it with chokecherry or serviceberry syrup while it's still warm.

This is the best recipe online for real true bannock.

Finally, a real bannock recipe! No sugar. No raisins. Just bannock. True and traditional. I'd LOVE to take a picture, but I can't manage to do it before I eat it all. I've been living in MX for a year and...I need my fix from time to time. Don't be afraid to cook it in a pan, on the stove-top on medium (or low...you know your range). Best in a cast iron pan but I've done it twice in a teflon. Not the same as on hot rocks on the beach in BC...but you do what you can. Myself, I'd avoid deep-frying it...seems to be more a "modern" thing. I wouldn't..but man oh man...it's delicious deep-fried, too (only had it once like that). Just not that good for you. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid!
