“I have no idea why this is called Indian Cake. I have had the recipe for many years. It originally came from a neighbor, Alma Adair. This cake has been served for many family birthdays. A scoop of vanilla or coffee ice cream is the perfect partner for it.”

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Cake:
  2. Cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs and blend.
  3. Add the cold coffee and beat 1 minute.
  4. Sift together the cocoa, flour, soda, and salt. Blend into the other ingredients.
  5. Add the boiling water and blend with mixer on low.
  6. Pour in a greased 9" x 13" pan and bake 35 - 40 min, at 350 degrees.
  7. Icing:
  8. Mix sugar, butter, milk, cocoa, and salt in a sauce pan.
  9. Beat in the egg and bring to a boil and boil one minute stirring constantly.
  10. Beat with mixer and spread on cake.
