Irish Cream Chocolate Mousse Pie

"You must try this! My family waits all year for me to make this for St. Pattie's Day. It's Oh So Rich and yummy. I use Bailey's because I think it's the best, but I imagine it would work with other Irish Creams as well."

directions

  • In saucepan, sprinkle gelatine over milk. Let stand about 1 minute, then stir over low heat until gelatine is dissolved, about 5 minutes.
  • Add chocolate and continue cooking, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted, then stir in vanilla.
  • Remove from heat and stir occasionally, adding Bailey's about 5 minutes after removal from heat.
  • When mixture forms mounds when dropped from a spoon, fold in whipped topping and turn into crust.
  • Garnish with whipped topping and shaved chocolate curls if desired. Chill at least 4 hours before serving.

Questions & Replies

  1. How long does it take for chocolate mixture to form mounds? Mines been sitting for 20min already. When can I add the whipped cream?

  1. This pie is very good. I know one commentator complained that it’s not light and fluffy like a traditional mousse that is served in a glass dish. But that doesn’t work with a pie, as it would fall apart when you tried to slice it. I think this recipe is the perfect balance between a mousse like texture and stability for slicing. I did drop the Baileys from 3/4 to 1/2 cup and used a cup of milk to compensate. But that was just a matter of personal taste.

  2. Yummy. I made this for company over the weekend and it was gone in a flash. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Sorry but we did not care for this at all. Made as directed & it turned out stiff, because of the gelatin I'm sure.Mousse should be fluffy & lite.Being concerned the kids would get into it was another downside. The alcolhol flavor was toooo strong for our taste. Giving it 3 stars for ease of preparation.

  4. I just love that this pie doesn't use instant pudding mix! Very chocolately and rich...just perfect! I sprinkled some mini chocolate chips on top. Delicious!

  5. Yummy!!! I made this for our annual St. Patty's day party. Really easy, really good.
