2 cups all-purpose flour
¹⁄₂ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ¹⁄₃ cups dark brown sugar (packed)
¹⁄₂ teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
¹⁄₂ teaspoon salt
1 ¹⁄₄ cups low-fat buttermilk
1 egg
2 tablespoons applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk chocolate chips
¹⁄₃ cup chopped pecans

directions

Preheat oven to 350 F and prepare your muffin tin by spraying with nonstick spray.
In a medium bowl combine the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt and mix with a whisk.
In a large bowl combine the buttermilk, egg, applesauce and vanilla.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix to combine; add the chocolate chips and pecans and fill each muffin cup about 3/4 full.
Bake for 20-25 minutes (for regular sized muffin tins or about 13 minutes for mini muffins) or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
