Jelly Center Cookies (Thumbprints)

"My Grandma used to make these for Christmas and now we beg my Mom to make them every year. My Grandma used to use mint jelly but we prefer grape or cherry. I'm just guessing at how many this makes."

  • Cream butter until soft; blend in sugar; add egg yolks, beating until light. Blend in flour.
  • Roll dough into small balls (about 1 inch). Dip in beaten egg whites, the roll in chopped nuts.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press them flat and make a dent in the center. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • When cool, fill dent with jelly.
