ingredients

3 cups sugar
1 ¹⁄₂ cups cocoa powder
1 ¹⁄₂ cups all-purpose flour
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 ¹⁄₂ cups softened butter or 1 1/2 cups softened margarine
6 eggs, slightly beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

directions

Preheat oven to 325°F.
In a large bowl, cream butter, eggs, vanilla and sugar.
Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until the mixture is well blended.
Spread batter evenly in a parchment lined 11 X 13 inch cookie sheet (for thin brownies) or a 9 X 12 inch cake pan.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool in pan.
Cut into 1 to 2 inch squares.
For gift mix purposes, you can layer all the dry ingredients into a large jar and attach a tag. For instructions, cream butter, eggs and vanilla extract. Then mix in jar of ingredients.
