  • Combine sugar and flour in bowl.
  • Melt butter, shortening, water, and cocoa powder and brink to a boil.
  • Pour mixture over sugar and flour.
  • Stir well.
  • Add remaining ingrdeients and stir until smooth.
  • Pour into two greased and floured layer cake pans.
  • Bake at 325 for twenty-five to thirty minutes.
  • Cool thoroughly before frosting.

  1. I did not use the frosting, but it looked like a pretty generic frosting so I thought I'd give the cake rating. This is very moist and soft, almost velvety, not over poweringly chocolatey. I used most of this cake for use in a truffle and it was so moist that it mixed in easily. Thanks for the recipe.
