Questions & Replies

 1. Would adding an egg to the mixture be a bad thing?

 2. Yes I don't have fresh carrot so could you use 10 sliced carrots after rinsing them off and mashing them up with that be good to use and kidney bean burgers that was my question

 1. I loved this recipe!! I used a food processor to "mash" my beans and steamed carrot, then I added a bit of diced onion in with the chili and cumin... gave everything another quick spin and took the mix out to add bread crumbs and S&P. I was surprised at how nicely it formed in to patties and how well they stayed together. I baked mine on a lightly sprayed cookie sheet and flipped them for the last 5 minutes. They turned out with a lovely crispiness on the outside and the perfect moistness within. Fantastic kick of spice...I ate mine as a platter and my husband made a huge sandwich of 2 patties...we both piled our plates high with "taco type fixings" (tomato, onion, lettuce, salsa and sour cream)Filling and fabulous. I can see myself playing with tons of variations of this great bean burger! Thanks for a "keeper" alyseepoo.

 2. I absolutely loved the flavour and texture of these burger patties! I followed the recipe pretty closely, using one can of kidney beans (which worked out to be a little less than 2 cups), one small carrot, plus I added 1/4 of a small onion, finely diced, as suggested by other reviewers. This gave me 4 good-sized patties. I imagine that this is an extremely versatile recipe, but I liked it just with the chili powder and cumin. My only little complaint is that they came out a tad dry after baking, but I wasn't too bothered by that. A simple and delicious recipe! Will definitely make again.

UPDATE: Made these again today, but using a mix of oatmeal and flour in place of breadcrumbs (didn't have any). I also added a dash of garlic powder and some pepper to the mash, and instead of baking (no oven) I cooked the patties on a nonstick skillet over medium heat, about 3-4 minutes on the first side and then about 2 minutes after flipping. They were even better than I'd remember them tasting!

 3. Loved these. The first time I used oatmeal and flour as I didn't have any bread crumbs. They were good, but I used bread crumbs the second time and they were awesome. I still didn't have bread crumbs but made some in the food processor, then added the rest of the ingredients and pulsed a little. I did add some fresh onion with the carrots and beans. Spices were right on. I froze a couple of the burgers the first time. They froze and thawed fine. Great recipe. I've eaten some as a plain patty and some on a bun.

 4. I made these last night and they were really good, but very dry so I added a little bit of water to loosen up the mix enough to form patties. My 4 and 5 year old kids really liked them. I also added a little oregano to the mix.
