Kittencal's Tender Microwave Corn (With Husks On)

"Leaving the husks on while microwaving ensures a very tender steamed corn, you might not even want butter or salt after tasting this corn! --- don't worry the silks will fall right off after cooking! For each ear increase microwaving time 3 minutes. Cooking time is for 1 ear of corn :)"

directions

  • Cut off the floppy silks on top of the husks (do not remove the husk).
  • To help remove the husks when cooked, cut off the bottom of the husks plus 1/4 inch of the cob. When done, the entire husk plus silk can easily be pulled off from the top.
  • Wet both papers towels and squeeze out the water then wrap each husk well with double layer of damp paper towels.
  • Place the corn/s around the outside of the turntable.
  • Microwave for 1-1/2 minutes on HIGH, turn the corn onto it's otherside and continue to cook for another 1-1/2 minutes (feel the ear to be sure they are very hot).
  • Using a towel carefully remove from microwave and let sit for 5 minutes before removing the husks and silks, the silks will slide off like magic (BE CAREFUL these are very hot!).
  • Serve with butter and salt.

  1. Fantastic! I used to steam it in the husk the way they do in the Eastern Shore area but this is even easier and just as tasty! I soak it in water for a short while instead of using damp paper towels. 1.5 to 2 mins on each side. Perfect every time!

  2. So happy to see this posted. I've been making my corn this way for the last few years. It was an accidental discovery. I was in a hurry one day and threw some corn in the microwave. It was LOVE at first bite. I don't use the damp paper towels though. And I don't time it because of the varianace in corn types and sizes. When I can smell the fresh husks, then I know they are done. It sure beats heating up the kitchen with the boiling water!

  3. Very easy but the best part is the taste. This is the best way to steam corn that I have found. Thanks for a keeper. Be sure to do only one ear at a time as the recipe mentions or it takes longer to cook.

  4. I have been doing this for years but didn't turn them or use a paper towel..I must try this..thank you

  5. We loved the corn made this way. The corn was so sweet and fresh tasting, I hardly used butter. I think it will be the way we make corn from now on.
