Korean Beef on Fiery Cabbage

"This in one of my favorite dishes to make. It's fun, flavorful, and is on the table in less than 30 minutes. This is an easy way to get DH to eat cabbage! I serve the whole dish under a bed of brown rice. I also make mine much hotter by adding serrano peppers! I did not include marinating time. I hope you enjoy!"

directions

  • Combine all marinade ingredients in a large, shallow dish or ziplock bag. Add meat and toss to combine. Refridgerate for at least 1 hour or up to six.
  • For the cabbage, saute the green onions, ginger and garlic in the oil in a large skillet for about 1 minute. Add the cabbage, carrots, chicken broth, vinegar, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring often for about 5 minutes.
  • For the meat, place meat and marinade in a large skillet and brown on all sides. This should only take 5 minutes and the marinade should be slightly reduced to a nice consistancy.
  • **I serve in a bowl with the rice on bottom, cabbage on top of rice, and meat on top of cabbage.

  1. Made this tonight, so delicious! For those wanting the cabbage to be truly Fiery, add 1 Tbs of Sriracha sauce.

  2. "Fiery Cabbage" .... sadly, it was not. We added extra crushed red pepper to the meat marinade and a generous amount to the cabbage and found the cabbage to still be overwhelmingly bland. The marinade was quite tasty, though, and we'll most likely be using that part of the recipe again. :)

  3. I had all the ingredients on hand except the cabbage. I sent hubby to the store. Our local store didn't have it, so he went to the gourmet market. Nine dollars later, I had the cabbage!! I thought "this better be some darn good cabbage". Well, it is!!! We both loved it. I will certainly make it again, but next time I won't be sending DH to the store. Thanks for something different and delicious.

  4. I really liked this but I never tire of cabbage. It wasn't that fiery so I think I will spice it up a bit next time. Maybe use your suggestion of serrano peppers. Made for PAC spring 2010

  5. Loved the Cabbage! Will forsure cook this part again - great flavor and the flank steak turned out wonderful, too. I used Mrs. Dash Steak Grilling Spice and my cast iron grill on top of the stove to cook it and it turned out just right.
