"This makes a fun treat for the kids...and one grownups like as well. A healthy alternative to cupcakes for a bug themed birthday party."

directions

  • Slice apples in half from top to bottom and scoop out the core using a knife or melon baller. If you have an apple corer, core the apples before cutting them in half.
  • Place each apple cut side down on a small plate.
  • Dab small dots of peanut butter on the back of the "ladybug" then top the peanut butter with a chocolate chip for spots. Use this method to make eyes too.
  • Stick one end of each pretzel stick into a raisin, then press the other end into the apples to make antennae.

  1. Darling, fast, healthy, fun and tasty craft. We made these at my son's pre-school yesterday and the boys and girls alike got a kick out of them. We used white icing for sticking of the chocolate chips. Thanks for posting!

  2. What a fun thing to do with young children!! These turned out soooo very cute!! I found using the melon baller to remove all the core after slicing in half was very easy and allowed a 5 yo to help much more! Tagged and made for Potluck Tag Game!

  3. Gretat idea of a recipe.. kids loved these as well as helping too. Used creamy peanut butter. Made for Recipe Swap #46.

  4. My daughters loved these cute little ladybugs......the only problem I had was that I found 'the fairies' had eaten my chocolate chips and so we used chunks of a dark chocolate instead. Very cute and very easy to make. For a nut-free child, you could substitute the peanut butter for cream cheese or a white icing paste. Photo also to be posted

  5. Love these! They are so cute!! Used regular peanut butter, and didn't really measure. :)

I am blessed with a wonderful dh and four fantastic, crazy children. I am a stay at home mom who works from son up till son down. My favorite cookbook is not one that I cook with very often, it actually sits on top of my pantry propped up in an old basket. The cookbook was given to my grandmother just prior to her marriage to my grandfather and it has the family prayer and some recipes that my great-grandmother penned in her own hand inside. It is called All About Home Baking. <a href="http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/Missymop/?action=view&current=daringdingos.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/Missymop/daringdingos.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <img src="http://www.satsleuth.com/cooking/Swap14.JPG"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/GrassTree.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/Erica.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/BottleBrush.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/Darwinia.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/babygrey-1.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/Correa.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/picNW72Oj-1.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/picCdyPjI-1.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/pic9ysNPn-1.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/picbtGrUW-1.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/pictSF7ey-1.jpg"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/adoptedspring08.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PACfall08partic.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Iwasadopted.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Participation.jpg"> <img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e110/flower753/Food/my3chefsnov2008.jpg"> <img src=http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m445/mliss29/vegnswap1/group10peppers.jpg> <img src=http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m445/mliss29/vegnswap2/group04cherry.jpg> <img src="http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/bb_babe626/Recipes/makemyrecipebannnner.jpg"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Holiday-plaid_HPI.gif">
