Leperice (Mashed Potatoes With Sauerkraut)

- 2 lbs potatoes
- 1 lb sauerkraut
- 1 lb bacon, diced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cumin seed
- 1 cup milk
directions
- Peel potatoes and boil in salted water along with cumin seeds.
- Drain and mash potatoes along with cumin seeds. Set aside.
- Cook sauerkraut seperately until sauerkraut is boiling. Drain.
- Cook bacon until brown. Drain reserving 1/2 cup bacon fat.
- Mix potatoes and sauerkraut with milk. Pour bacon and fat over or mix them in, which ever is prefered.
- Serve with roast pork or any smoked meats.

I've thought about mashed potatoes with saurkraut and bacon for close to 45 years! My HS cafeteria used to serve it and I loved it. Made this today and boy did it bring back memories. This will be a weekly side dish now! Thank you so much for posting. :-D
