1. I was so happy to come across this recipe. I loved this salad as a child and teen and still love it today. We didn't always use the nuts and sometimes replaced the the whipping cream with Dream Whip. Thanks for posting. I'd almost forgotten about this wonderful treat.

 2. Yep! This is the one I`ve been looking for. I haven`t made it for a long time & couldn`t find my original recipe. I`d had it for many years. I whip the jello/marshmallow mixture when the jello is almost set. It`s very good! Thanks for posting this recipe.

 3. the recipe I have used for years did not call for melted marshmallows. I saw your recipe and decided to try it. Liked it a lot better than the one I have been making. Thanks

 4. This SAME Recipe My Sweet Gracious Granny Prepared For Her Large Family Every Thanksgiving And Christmas! OMGosh.. Thought I Had Lost it Forever! REAL Whipped Cream. And Marshmellows. ZERO “Cool Whip”... Thank You, Thank You, And Thank You.

 5. My mom made this every year for thanksgivings and Christmas. She passed away last year but when I make this she is still there with me and that makes missing her a little less.

Tweaks

 1. Our family's version of this old classic didn't have marshmallows. We added a couple of tbsps of prepared horseradish and some mayonnaise. Nummy!

Cybrarian. I love Alton Brown because he EXPLAINS everything behind what he does in his Good Eats show on the Food Network. It means I remember to do something because he tells me WHY. And Alton has unforgettable and humorous visuals. (Love the little Dutch girl/boy!) And I've picked up things like non-stick pans don't brown like regular heavy pans or *cast iron*. I find Bobby Flay and Emril ANNOYING and the former - yish...what an egotist!
