Liptauer Cheese

"Liptauer Cheese is an appetizer dip, a soft, smooth and cream mixture to be scoped up on crackers, potato chips, pretzels, etc. You can make this ahead of time and store in the refrigerator, but be sure to take it out before you serve it. Let it stand for about 45 minutes or until room temperature to serve."

  • Cream the butter in a small bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Add cream cheese and beat until smoothly blended.
  • Chop the caraway seeds in a blender and then add to the butter mixture.
  • Chop capers finely and add to mixture.
  • Add mustard and paprika.
  • Rinse, dry and chop the anchovy then stir into the cheese mixture and blend well.
  • Shape into a neat rectangle on serving plate and border with pretzels.

  1. WOW! This cheese spread is OUTSTANDING!!!I used Anchovie Paste, other than that as listed. I used it in my cooking classes and it was a big hit. No one had ever tasted anything like it. My spousal unit and I live in Mesa Arizona and love the heck out of it. I was trained in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management but due to disability am unable to pursue that career. I enjoy cookbooks, cooking websites, cooking magazines (Taste of Home, etc.). I have many cookbook gleaned from the shelves of used book stores and from church bake sales. I have also placed all my recipes on a disc and probably have 1000s myself. My wife is GREATLY disappointed that I wont let her cook. (She says I let her cook...I just won't eat anything she makes!) The picture on my icon is of my Great Zeyda "Wolf" Ginsberg who was known as the "Rabbi of Des Moines". This was a very old picture taken with a camera using flash powder for lighting. The couple in Renaissance garb is me and my DG. This is our wedding picture and the "wench" sitting down is "My Yiddishe Mama"
