  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. In medium bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine applesauce, egg whites, oil, and vanilla; beat until blended. Add flour mixture to applesauce mixture and stir just until evenly moistened. Do not overmix.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips. Spoon batter into 12 oiled or paper lined muffin cups.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes, or until centers spring back when pressed lightly. Do not overbake! Cool on a wire rack.
