Low-Guilt Chocolate Fix

"My mother is the dictionary definition of "chocoholic". As a child I was not allowed to have sweets often, we were big on vegetarian meals and so on. However, this little treat didn't count I guess, and I came home from school to animal crackers and icing, fruit and chococlate dip, movies and chocolate... you get the picture. note: my mother prefers Ghiradelli cocoa powder because she swears it's the best, but I find that Hershey's tatses just as heavenly"

directions

  • Thouroughly mix cocoa and sugar.
  • Mix in hot water.
  • Add more hot water if it is too thick, but MAKE SURE that it is all dissolved first; this gets watery quickly.
  • Experiment with adding different flavorings as per your taste. Then dig in!

  1. I made this tonight because my husband was craving chocolate. We didn't have anything chocolate on hand, and I didn't feel like cleaning up the kitchen and baking and all that. At first, I made just a little bit, using 4 tsp. sugar, 1 tsp. cocoa, and 1/2 tsp. hot water. We ate some plain and then dipped strawberries in it. We were impressed but both agreed it might be better made with milk. So, I microwaved 1 tsp. milk for about fifteen seconds, just to get it warm enough to melt into the cocoa and sugar, and made twice as much as the first time. All in all, we really liked it; and I almost feel guilty and a bit devious for finding a way to get a chocolate fix this easy! Since my original review, I've started using this in lieu of frosting too. Thank you!

  2. I had a bunch of bananas given to me. So I sliced them up and made this for my kids to snack on. They enjoyed it. I did follow another reviewer and used milk instead of water. My kids enjoyed this. Made for Spring PAC 2009.

  3. Soo good! Next time I might actually try putting it on something.

  4. i loved this, but instead of water i used milk, it seems to be more cremy this way. i also used vanilla and almond extract.. YUMMY!

  5. This was soooooo good and easy easy easy! I had to use 2 Tbsp water to dissolve the sugar & cocoa completely. Added a sprinkle of cinnamon and may try adding chili or vanilla next time (and there will be so many next times!) Polished this off with some shortbread cookies. I'm thinking banana slices would also be good dipped in this (I'll have to try that soon.) Thank you so much Vye (and Vye's mother!) for this recipe!

I love to bake, especially when I can try different flavors and unusual combinatins. Someday I'd love to own a bakery, but for now I'm still just experimenting.
