Reviews

  1. It turned out great ant it tastes amazing ???????????????? Thanks for the recipe

  2. From the reviews I decided to go with abit of cinnamon and cardamon instead of the All Spice. Turned out really well. This one is a keeper.

  3. It didn't have quite the right flavor with the allspice, and I wasn't pleased with the over all texture. I made it again tweaking some things and it turned out better the second time.

  4. For my CWP class, we had to choose a country and discuss things about it. I chose Kenya and decided to bring a dish for my class to try. I came upon this recipe for Mandazi, and wasn't disappointed! This is something I will be making again in the future!

  5. This is a great recipe! I, too, added a pinch of salt. I also added a hint of Cinnamon on top of the Allspice. It turned out great! Next time I will make a bigger batch.

Tweaks

  1. I replaced the milk and water with coconut milk, switched the baking powder with yeast, and used cardamom versus allspice.

  2. Hmmm this brings back memories growing up in Kenya... Kids can have great fun with you rolling out the dough and cutting it out. You could substitute cinnamon or nutmeg for the allspice if you wish. I would also add a couple more spoons of sugar and a tiny pinch of salt. Everywhere you go in Kenya and the rest of East Africa, you will find mandazi of all sizes in homes, cafes, roadside kiosks- its a great snack to munch to have with some chai. Thanks for the recipe, I doubled it and made lots so I can have enough for the week.
