Maple Apple Crunch

"Came across this recipe in my morning mail...it was for the nutritious properties of none other than the common, ordinary apple. Apples contain both insoluble and soluble fiber reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol in the body. While raw is the healthiest way to eat them, one can only eat so many raw apples. Fortunately, cooking with apples is very healthy as well."

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • In a bowl, combine apple slices, lemon juice, cinnamon, raisins and syrup.
  • In another bowl, combine oats, flour, almonds, oil, syrup and extract.
  • Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with canola oil cooking spray and add apple mixture.
  • Cover pan with foil and bake 30-40 minutes, until apples are softened.
  • Sprinkle with topping.
  • Bake uncovered another 20-30 minutes until crisp. Serve warm.

<p>I was born and raised in Connecticut. I love the New England area, I think it is so pretty with the change of the seasons. <br /><br />I work for an ambulance company in their wheelchair division for non-emergency transportation. I work in the billing and customer service office. I love my job, the duties are so varied that you are always working on something different....no time for boredom. <br /><br />I am a mother to four, two sons and two daughters. <br />All have left the roost to start there own family. At last count, I was a granny to 6 boys and 2 little girls. <br /><br />I love Recipezaar and all the new daily postings. I see so much I want to try and continue to save them. I just don't have all the time to make all these recipes. I lost my husband in July 2006 and I am not the spring chicken anymore...pretty tired when I get home from work...so it's all quick, quick, quick, for me. <br /><br />I have tried a few....and have been pleased with my results and the new taste sensations. I am trying to initiate a goal of trying at least two new recipes a week.
