  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Lightly grease a cookie sheet; set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
  • Beat in half of the flour.
  • Add maple syrup, egg, milk, baking powder, and salt.
  • Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.
  • Stir in remaining flour and the oats.
  • Stir in raisins and nuts (dough will be soft).
  • Drop dough by heaping teaspoons 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake about 13 minutes or until edges are light brown.
  • Let stand for 1 minute on cookie sheet.
  • Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
  • Store-layer cookies between waxed paper in an airtight container; cover.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
