“From The America's Test Kitchen Cookbook. My friend made these for our "bunco" group recently and they were delicious. I like the fact that it is all natural. It's more work than the typical bottled mixes but well worth the time. For the smoothest and most affordable flavor, use a reposado (rested in wood) tequila made from 100 percent blue agave (aged 12 months or less).”

Directions

  1. Combine the lime juice, lemon juice, lime zest, lemon zest, sugar and salt in a large liquid measuring cup. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the flavors meld, about 2 hours.
  2. Strain the juice mixture into a pitcher and stir in the tequila, Triple Sec and 1 cup of the crushed ice. Pour over additional crushed ice before serving.
  3. To make ahead: The recipe can be prepared through step 1 and refrigerated, covered tightly with plastic wrap, for up to 2 days. The longer the mixture sits, the more it mellows, eventually losing any harsh acidity and tasting of pure citrus only.
