Marissa's Baked Beans

- 1 lb navy beans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1⁄4 lb salt pork
- 1⁄2 cup ketchup
- 1 onion
- water
directions
- Rinse and drain beans, place in a bowl and cover with water to soak overnight in the fridge.
- Drain the beans.
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
- Rinse the salt pork and cut into chunks. Layer the salt pork inthe botoom of the roasting pan and pour the beans over top.
- Combine the brown sugar, ketchup and enough water to cover the beans.
- Mix well and pour over top of the beans.
- Cut the onion up and distribute it evenly over the beans and mix inches.
- Cook for about 6 hours, adding water as needed, about every 2 hours.

<p>I live in a small town and cooking is a great hobby because I can try it out on my friends. I have two young children, one who is a very picky eater and the other is just starting solid foods and so far hasn't turned his nose up at anything. I try to modify recipes so that they are more healthy, usually this means buying the non fat or low fat version of an ingredient. There's one thing I don't edit out though and that's butter. It's better to use than margarine (even the low fat kind) because in margarine, all you're buying is water and there's really no point to that.</p>
