Marley's Mulled Cider

"A tasty Mulled Apple Cider which can be served with or without Rum. I tweaked this over a few years to get it just so, and it's generally pretty popular at our holiday parties. (Halloween through Christmas) Plus it makes the house smell fantastic."

  • With cloves and allspice in a teaball, cook all ingredients in a Crockpot on low 2-8 hours. Stir occasionally/rarely to dissolve sugar. Or cook in a pan on the stovetop on low heat 20-30 minute until it simmers.
  • Add 1 1/2 oz. Bacardi Gold Rum (MUST be Bacardi, accept no substitutes) per mugful when poured, if desired. Don't cook it with the Rum.

  1. I've made a half recipe of this several times, using both apple cider (made by a local farmer) and apple juice. I definitely go for cider over juice! My only change was that I used vanilla extract instead of rum (hey, don't knock it until you've tried it).

  2. This is excellent. We have been using it at parties and just made a Thanksgiving batch. Super yum! We did put the rum in the crockpot w/ the other ingredients, which worked very nicely (it didn't cook off or evaporate because my crockpot lid has no vent).

  3. I made this twice over the holidays. There aren't many things more warming and comforting than a mug of good hot spiced cider, and this one was perfect! Thanks for sharing your recipe!

In my "real" life I own a moderately successful business. That generally takes most of my time and mental energy. So when I have time to relax, I like to cook or do some model railroading. I'm still what I would call a novice cook, but I love it, and I do all of the cooking for my family (wife and two kids). There are some things I've been cooking all my adult life (43 years old), but I occasionally get the bug to ad something to my repertoire. Then I research recipes like mad; change, adapt, distill and tweak them until I have just what I'm looking for.
