- 1 cup Crisco
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 cups quick oats
- 1 1⁄2 cups raisins (or chocolate chips)
directions
- Cream together Crisco and sugars; stir in eggs, water, and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients, stirring to blend.
- Mix in raisins (or chocolate chips).
- Drop by half teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375 degrees F or 12 minutes.
- (Do not let cookies get too brown or they will burn on the bottom.).

I found this recipe on www.quakeroats.com website this morning but the recipe ingredient amounts just differed slightly and the recipe was titled 1943 Mary Alden's Favorite Oatmeal Cookie: HERE IS THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS FROM THE WEBSITE: 1/4 cup shortening or bacon drippings 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup sifted flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup Quaker Oats (Old Fashioned or Quick, uncooked) HERE ARE THE DIRECTIONS FROM THE WEBSITE: 1. Preheat oven to 375° F. 2. Cream shortening, add sugars gradually and cream well. Add egg and beat thoroughly; add vanilla. 3. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt and add with Quaker Oats to creamed mixture. Roll small balls of dough between palms of hands until surface of dough is shiny. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 12-15 minutes. Servings: 3 Dozen VARIATIONS: For spiced cookies, add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon each of ginger and nutmeg to dry ingredients.
