“Not sure where my mother got this recipe, but it is tasty. She called it her easy pork chop and rice dinner. The recipe card she handed down to me actually calls it mediterranean pork chops. I know its sort of a cheat recipe because of the canned manwich, but it still is good and so easy! I am sure you could add some veggies to the mix to make it healthier! Give it a try!”

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 6 pork chops
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 16 ounces of hunts manwich sloppy joe sandwich sauce
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 12 teaspoon oregano
  • 12 teaspoon basil
  • 12 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 12 cup shredded cheddar cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Salt and pepper pork chops and fry in oil in a frying pan, remove from heat and set aside. (its ok if they arent completely cooked but are only browned on the outside of chops, they will cook completely during baking time).
  3. Combine 1 1/2 cups manwich sauce and 1 3/4 cups hot water, rice, oregano and basil in a 2 quart baking dish.
  4. Add half the cheeses and 1/2 tsp salt to mixture and stir to combine.
  5. Arrange chops over the mixture and cover tightly, with either the lid to the casserole dish or tinfoil.
  6. Bake 45 minutes.
  7. Remove cover and top with remaining cheese.
  8. Pour remaining manwich mixed with remaining water over top of all.
  9. Bake, uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.
