Michelada

"I found this on the Saveur site. (Great site by the way!! Thank you NCmysteryshopper for telling me about it!) I'm hoping to find someone brave enough to try this drink with me!!This drink might be named for Michel Esper—but chelada is also slang for “cold beer”."

  • Dip rims of 1 tall chilled glass in a saucer of water, shake off excess, then dip moistened rim in a saucer of kosher or margarita salt.
  • Fill glass half-way with ice and then one-third full with freshly squeezed lemon juice, then top off with cold Corona, Pacifico, or other light Mexican beer.
  • Add 1–2 dashes worcestershire, a splash of spicy v8 and Tabasco sauces. Serve with lemon wedges, if you like.

Questions & Replies

  1. My favorite drink! I prefer Clamato to the V-8 and love it dressed up like a Bloody Mary (all the veggies!)

  1. This is good, but to make it truly authentic you must use Picante Clamato instead of V-8 and never-ever lemons. Always limes.

  2. In Tucson, AZ, where I first encountered the Michelada, it is usually made with Clamato juice. It's delicious!

  3. I'm mexican, and I love this drink. Before dinner very cold on a very hot afternoon is the best. Instead of water, moisten the rims of the glass with the juice of the lime, it tastes better with the salt.

  4. This is the national drink of Costa Rica but to do it right you need the juice of the lemon maderina (an orange fleshed lime with a really ugly green and brown skin)

  5. This was great! I have had something like it..but not quite this. I loved it! great with the tex mex dinner we had :)
