ingredients

¹⁄₂ cup shortening
¹⁄₂ cup sugar
¹⁄₂ cup brown sugar
1 egg
¹⁄₂ teaspoon baking soda
¹⁄₂ teaspoon salt
1 ¹⁄₈ cups flour
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¹⁄₄ teaspoon clove
¹⁄₂ cup walnuts, chopped

directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease cookie sheet.
Cream shortening with both sugars. Add eggs and beat well.
Sift together dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture. Fold in walnuts (optional).
Roll into 1" balls, roll balls in 2 Tbsp granulated sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
