  • Cook the pasta according to package directions, drain and set aside.
  • Position knife blade in food processor, add tomatoes.
  • Pulse 3 to 4 times or until amost smooth, set aside.
  • Coat a medium skillet with non-stick cooking spray, add oil, and place over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Add the onion and garlic; saute 3 minutes or until tender.
  • Add tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat, simmer uncovered 10 minutes.
  • Stir in parlsey and basil.
  • Serve sauce over pasta; sprinkle with cheese.

  1. This was very easy to make and had a very fresh taste that I enjoyed. I used penne because it was what I had to hand and I also used canned tomatoes instead of fresh. I doubled the recipe to feed out hungry tummies and that worked out great too. For dietary reasons, I skipped the oil and used a non-fat cooking spray and splashes of water to 'fry' the onions and I also used splenda instead of sugar with no issues at all. Made for ZWT4.
     
  2. Excellent recipe! I don't have a food processor so just crushed the tomatoes by hand. Used 2 cloves of garlic. Will definitely make this again! Thanks for sharing a great recipe.
     
  3. Thank you for your great, quick pasta recipe! We will make again. Unfortunately I used diced toms. with skins on, so it kinda ruined the texture for us. I think next time too, I'll add a tiny bit more olive oil and 1/2 tsp less basil. All in all a good pasta. it's a keeper!

I came to this site in March of 2004. It was then called Recipezaar. This site was the first on-line site that I ever joined. I first popped in 2003 while searching for a Peach Cobbler Recipe. In March of 2004, DH was having shoulder surgery and I was looking for a Split Pea Soup. Once again I found myself on Zaar as it came to be called. Over the years I hung out and learned from some of the best home cooks in the country, I posted over 700 recipes on the site, reviewed over 3500 recipes and posted over 3000 food photos. Over the next 10 years the site made many changes and in 2010 it was sold to to Food Network and became Food.com. Until last year we played games, talked and shared with one another. As a result of the community and the relationships I built I got to meet some wonderful people from all over the country. I also have a great number of friends that I have never meet face to face. Some of us still hang out at various places across the net. Zaar was more than a cooking community. It was an internet community of friendship. Life is an adventure ever changing.
