Mother's Banana Nut Bread

- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 medium egg
- 2 tablespoons buttermilk
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1⁄2 pecans, chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1⁄2 cups bananas, mashed
directions
- Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- Cream shortening, add sugar, and beaten egg.
- Mix well.
- Mash bananas really well.
- Add the buttermilk.
- Add chopped pecans to the sifted dry ingredients and fold into creamed mixture gradually , alternating with milk and bananas.
- Pour into pan lined with waxed paper, and bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 1 hour.
