  • Mix shortening and brown sugar.
  • Add beaten egg, water and vanilla.
  • Mix dry ingredients.
  • Add to egg/shortening misture.
  • Drop on greased cookie sheet Bake 375F 10mins.
  • NOTE: Store cookies in tightly covered container.

  1. I have made these cookies twice, but decreased the salt to 1 teaspoon because my instincts told me 2 would be too salty. One teaspoon gives, to me, a perfect taste. I also added chocolate chips and nuts. Rave reviews from all who ate them!
     
  2. Well if the other person had"nt messed with the ingredients it may have turned out better for them. I on on the other hand stuck to the ingredients you you listed and they turned out fine. I give them a 5.
     
  3. I am going to try this recipe because I have been looking for a recipe for soft oatmeal cookies a long time. This one looks promising. However, based on two reviews, I will start by replacing the baking soda with baking powder. Will let you know how it turns out.
     
  4. I take it back! The second day, these one-great cookies taste so strongly of soda I may need to throw them out. Sorry. :(
