Nanny's Walnut Cake

"This is an old family recipe from my father's mother who was a naturalized US citizen (originally from Nova Scotia, Canada). Works well with a simple sugar glaze or a warm white sauce over top."

  • Mix sugar, eggs, shortening and extract until well blended.
  • Sift together dry ingredients and add, alternating with milk, until incorporated.
  • Add walnuts and mix.
  • Pour batter into a large, lightly greased tube pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Test center with toothpick. If not clean, return cake to oven for an additional 10 minutes.
