New England Brownie Pudding

"This was a favorite dessert of mine when I was little. It's not a sophisticated dessert by any means. It's a great recipe to make with children because it is somewhat magical. :-). After mixing the main ingredients together, it is topped with a sugar and cocoa mix. When it comes out of the oven, a chocolate cake has formed on the top with a chocolate pudding under it. We loved it served warm with whipped cream. Enjoy!"

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Mix dry ingredients with milk, shortening, and vanilla.
  • Put in greased 9" X 9" pan.
  • Mix brown sugar and cocoa together and sprinkle over batter.
  • Pour boiling water over the top. DO NOT MIX!
  • Bake for 20 - 35 minutes or until brownie on top is cooked.
  • Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
