Directions

  1. Beat shortening, brown sugar, white sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  2. Add flour and salt; mix well.
  3. Dissolve baking soda in the boiling water and add to the flour mix.
  4. Stir in oatmeal and chocolate chips.
  5. Roll into balls and put on an ungreased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
  6. Flatten with a fork dipped in cold water.
  7. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes.
