- 1 1⁄2 cups shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 1⁄4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups oats
- 12 ounces chocolate chips
directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In large bowl, mix shortening, sugars, and eggs together until creamy. Set aside.
- In another large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt, and oats.
- Add to sugar mixture.
- Add milk and vanilla.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop onto greased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 10 minutes.

These were good. They are more cake-like and not the chewy gooey kind. I mixed all of the ingredients and let them sit for a few minutes before putting any on the baking sheet. I added about 1 tsp vanilla and no milk as stated in step 5. They don't spread out much so it is better to make them large and flattened out a little. I thnk I may add chopped pecans next time I make them.
