Old Bay Barbecued Baby Back Ribs

"Old Bay with ribs you say? YES! Old Bay seasoning is not just for seafood. This recipe includes a great rub using Old Bay Seasoning. Easy to prepare and fast, especially if you boil the ribs in advance. Barbecue time is only 20 minutes! GASP!-Yes I said boil. I know many say boiling boils out all the flavor, but these ribs are as tasty as can be. Cook time does not include standing time of 20 minutes to 24 hours. These can be finished either on the grill or in the oven."

directions

  • Cut ribs into 3 or 4 rib sections.
  • Place ribs in a large stockpot along with onion and garlic.
  • Cover with water and bring to a full boil.
  • Cover pot and lower heat to simmer, and let simmer for 45 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine Old Bay seasoning and brown sugar together, mixing well.
  • After 45 minutes, carefully remove ribs from stockpot and place on a platter and let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Rub ribs with seasoning mix.
  • Let ribs stand with rub anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours, wrapping and refrigerating if longer than 20 minutes (I make mine the morning of the day I'm planning on barbecuing them).
  • Before finishing, bring ribs back to room temperature if they have been refrigerated.
  • If using the grill, preheat grill to medium or medium-high heat.
  • Place ribs on grill and barbecue 5 minutes on each side, then baste with your favorite barbecue sauce and continue to grill about 5-10 minutes each side, until heated through.
  • If finishing in the oven, preheat oven to 350°F and place ribs on shallow baking dish.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, then baste with sauce and bake another 10 minutes.
  • Turn ribs over, baste the other side, and continue cooking about 10 minutes more, until heated through.
  • Serve ribs with extra sauce on the side.

  1. I have made this twice now and it gets better each attempt. I used 1/2 beer and 1/2 water to boil them. Used country style ribs this last time and they were fantastic. Will be using this recipe when camping this summer!

  2. I think this is an awesome recipe! We have made it before and just forgot to rate it. Hardly a word was spoken at dinner---just MMmmm and some licking of fingers! It is a fast way to have ribs during the week. Thanks for the great recipe.

  3. These were great! I followed the recipe for the oven - it was too cold out to grill. The only thing I will do different next time is let them simmer longer so they are more tender. My fussy husband loved them and I did, too. Thanks!

  4. This were fabulous! We are always in the market for a good rib recipe and this one is wonderful! We loved this! We finished in the oven because the wind was bad...can't wait to finish these on the grill when the weather is better. My late father in law made wonderful ribs and these rivaled his! I had to come back and add to my review. We use this rub recipe for ribs in our smoker. We always get RAVE reviews!!!! Thank you so much for this recipe!!!

  5. These ribs are amazing. I deviated from the recipe a bit - by only boiling for 15 minutes, and then combining 1 tsp onion powder & 1 tsp garlic powder in a double back of the rub. Then cooked them for 2 1/2 hours in foil and finished them on the grill. They were excellent. I brought them to a family cookout and my husband said that his friend told him that they should be served in a restaurant. Everyone enjoyed them.
