Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake

“This is a moist, spicey cake. Easy to make and tastes OLD FASHIONED. Good for dessert or as a breakfast treat. Can't remember where I got the recipe, I think from a resident's grand daughter ( I work at a retirement community)”

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 18 12 ounces spice cake mix
  • 3 large eggs or 3 large equivalent in egg substitute
  • 1 14 cups applesauce
  • 13 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (in my family I use) (optional)
  • 1 cup raisins
  • Frosting
  • 1 container prepared vanilla frosting
  • 12 teaspoon ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit Spray a 13 x 9 pan with bakers joy or grease and flour.
  2. In a large bowl combine cake mix, eggs, applesauce and oil.
  3. Beat at medium speed for 3 minutes, stir in nuts or raisins.
  4. Pour into pan.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted into middle of cake comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pan for 20 minutes.
  7. Cool on rack until completely cool.
  8. Frosting: In a small bowl mix frosting and ground cinnamon until completely mixed.
  9. Frost cool cake.
