Old-Fashioned Chocolate or Vanilla Malted

"The Walgreen drugstore chain popularized this soda-fountain drink in the 1930s under the name "Horlick's Malted Milk". You can make this warm-weather favorite with either whole milk and ice cream or low-fat milk and frozen yogurt. For adults, toss a shot of Kahlua or brandy into the blender for a tasty treat."

  1. This is really yummy! I used a combo of Ovaltine malted milk powder, vanilla ice-cream, homemade chocolate syrup(Steve G's recipe here on Recipezaar) and evaporated milk(as I ran out of fresh milk). This was really delicious, though, my only suggestion is to serve this chilled. I added 4-5 ice cubes to my glass and I was in heaven with this drink! Thanks!!!

  2. UPDATE: Made this the optional vanilla flavoured way the first time, using Carnation Vanilla Malted powder and my DH drank it down, leaving me just a a few tastes, but they were so good. Yesterday I made it the vanilla way again but I added just a teaspoon of Nutella, that was also excellent. The malted flavour really came through. I'm going to next add some diced frozen fruit, just to see how it turns out also with the malt powder...I can't wait!..Excellent recipe, Thank you for posting it Miss Annie.
