One-Pot Spaghetti With Meat Sauce

"Quick and easy. Green pepper, onion and red pepper flakes are optional. I usually skip the bell pepper and onion and add a 7 oz can of drained mushroom pieces instead."

  1. I just made this for dinner tonight and wow! I never thought a recipe so simple could be so delicious! I made just a few changes because of what I had on hand. Instead of turkey I used ground chuck. I omitted the onion and bell pepper which I would've loved to include but I didn't have any! I also omitted the red pepper flakes because I don't like them. Everything else I did according to the recipe. I did have to cook mine a bit longer because I like tender pasta and this one yielded more of an al dente. So that being said, it was still fantastic! Just proves that this recipe can be very versatile. You can add and omit as you please :) I think I will make spaghetti like this every time!

  2. I will never use a colander again! This is the best spaghetti I've ever made- and I just used a jar of Ragu Traditional. I just boiled until the water evaporated. I wouldn't change anything! On our meal rotation for sure!

  3. Perfect bachelor recipe. Super simple with ingredients that are good to keep around. Minimal cleanup, easy to adapt. Bonus - no extra salt needed.

  4. Great recipe and super easy! I added about a tablespoon or two of red wine that I had leftover. It gave it an amazing flavor like it had been cooked all day!!!

  5. I was skeptical but it worked! Leftovers held up better too. I used mushrooms instead of peppers. I recommend using a smaller pasta for getting hard spaghetti into the mix was not easy. Rigatoni or macaroni will probably work better. Also I recommend buying a small jar of sauce to add in after the pasta is done cooking just in case for mine was a little dry

Tweaks

  1. I added a tablespoon of sugar and used red bell peppers instead of green. I also used mild ground Italian sausage. Kids loved it.

  2. I replaced the turkey with beef and stirred in a little liquid smoke. My kitchen was a bit bare so I swapped spaghetti for penne rigate and used a bit of cayenne instead of red pepper flake. You can add cheese after plating or stir it in during the last few minutes of cooking.

  4. Good basic recipe. I used 1/2 lb chopped tempeh and 4 oz mushrooms instead of the turkey, and 1/2 glass white wine, a 28-oz can of crushed tomatoes and a couple of tbsp of fresh basil and rosemary instead of the sauce. Garnished w/ chopped olives.

  5. I have used this as the basis of my spag. recipe. I love that it is not dirtying more dishes than necessary. Now for my changes: my hubby will not eat green peppers or onions that he can see, so I omit the green pepper and use onion powder. I prefer ground beef. The biggest change I made was to substitute beef broth for some of the water to both boost the nutrition and add flavor. It's a super recipe! Thanks for posting.
