Orange Butter Spread

"This is a little different to the other orange butter recipes here as it uses less butter and also uses custard powder to help thicken, it's not really thick like a butter but more like a spread. It's really economical & quick to make not to mention tastes great."

  1. This was a big disappointment. I should have realized that the custard powder would overtake the flavour. The texture was good but one could not eat it, it had a custard taste and not much of an orange taste. I tried it over a few days hoping it would improve then threw the lot out. You would be better thickening with a desertspoon of cornflour.

  2. Loved that this had less butter and that it was so quick to make. Thickening with the custard powder worked really well: not a method I'd used before. I bought several lots of oranges from different sources during the week, and used the juiciest and most flavoursome from these in making this orange butter spread. It's such a key ingredient that that seems essential to me. Next time, because I also love lemon butter, I'm going to double this recipe and use one lemon with the oranges. Made for 1-2-3 Hit Wonders.

  3. Very nice orange butter! The custard powder was a great way to thicken the spread, and I really liked how little butter was needed. Now I just need to convince DH that it's better with less butter. Thanks Mandy!

Melbourne I live on a 5 acre property in the Dandenong Ranges Victoria, Australia, having moved from the burbs when I became pregnant with my now 15 year old daughter Alyssa. Once my daughter was born I became a stay at home mum as I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in daycare. She is the light of my life, I never imagined myself as a mum when younger but now wouldn't have it any other way. Alyssa was made a big sister on the 19th April 2010 when our cheeky little boy Blake was born. I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes so quickly become addicted to Zaar as it was previously known & still use it regularly. In addition to being my kids taxi  I also spend my time, reading, gardening and of course shopping. I'm lucky enough that we have the space & so love growing our own fruits, vegies & herbs, this also means we have plenty of room for animals & at the moment have 2 dogs, Max, a Jackshund who's 6, Fletcher, a Kelpie who's 4, 6 cats Snowpea, Fergus, Ginger, Tango, Annie & Cookie, 4 chooks & 2 Ducks. As well as our pets, we also have a lot of native animals around our area, we have kangaroos, wombats, echidna's, possums as well as rosella's, galah's & Cockatoo's hence the name of where I live..
