  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix flour, salt, and baking soda, set aside.
  • In a bowl, soften shortening.
  • Gradually add 1/2 cup of sugar and eggs, beating between each addition.
  • Incorporate flour previously set aside, brown sugar, oats, vanilla and chocolate chips.
  • Pour into a square 9" pan, greased.
  • Bake approximately 30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • In a saucepan, bring orange juice to a boil with 1/4 cup of sugar.
  • Pour onto hot cake.
  • Cool and cut into squares.
  • *This cake does not rise.
