  1. The proportions are way off in this recipe to be 49ers. I made one pancake and then adjusted. Try the recipe with 1 C flour, not two and decrease the baking powder. If you don't have sourdough starter, try adding a 1/2 C of nonfat, plain Greek yogurt to give it the tang.

  2. I enjoyed these pancakes ~ They were very tasty! However, I tweaked a few things! I mixed the flour, milk & starter the night before, then the next morning I added the rest of the ingredients & followed the recipe! Also, I almost doubled the sugar amount! Nice pancakes which I served up with both a peach sauce & a homemade maple syrup! [Made & reviewed for one of my adoptees in this Spring's Pick-A-Chef]

  3. These are definetly NOT the delicious, eggy, gooey 49ers you get at Original Pancake House. I made the recipe as written and had something that looked more like cornbread batter and cooked up about that way too...very thick and next to no taste. After LOTS of alterations I came up with something edible and somewhat like real 49ers. I had to add in 6 more eggs, 1 c. water, 1 c. milk, 1T. vanilla, and 3T. sugar. If you give this recipe a try, skip the 2 c. flour...the batter should be very thin so it will spread and definetly add in some vanilla, possibly some water and an extra egg or two.
