I've never had Outback tomato dressing. In fact,.. I'm not an Outback fan. This recipe tastes very much like Catalina dressing. It's sweet and tomato tasting using the recipe to exact measurements, which I did. I decided to tweak the recipe to suit my taste. It was my intention to make the flavors bolder,.. and it did. Added double the garlic powder, onion powder. ground pepper, cayenne, thyme, and an extra 1/4 cup of vinegar and simmered it again. It came out tasting similar,.. still sweet but with a little more flavor punch. I like it as an alternative to the Italian vinegar and oil dressing I regularly make.
