directions

  • Start heating the grill.
  • Place 1 slice of mozzarella on each of 4 slices of bread.
  • Place 1 slice of provolone on each of the other 4 slices of bread.
  • Top the mozzarella with pepperoni, salami and pepperoncini.
  • Top the provolone with turkey, ham and cheddar.
  • Place the two halves of the sandwiches together.
  • Brush the top of the first sandwich with the melted butter.
  • Place the sandwich butter side down on the grill.
  • Brush the other side with melted butter.
  • Grill till bread is toasted and the cheese has melted.
  • Continue with the other sandwiches.
  • A George Foreman grill works great with these sandwiches but even a stove top grill would work.

  1. Oh my now I know what all the fuss is about! Made these for the super bowl. I did use french bread but to size the grill but add all the other ingredients and also a few banana peppers before grilling. It came out crunchy and simply delicious. I cute the portions down to finger type sandwiches. Definitely a big hit!

  2. Love the crispy crust and the melty cheese. I made as directed and also with pastrami. YUM!

  3. My grocer makes an olive oil bread that made these sandwiches absolutely GREAT! My boys and hubby ate almost 2 each last night. I added a side of marinara sauce for dipping; that just topped it all off. Never thought the Foreman could make a sandwich look so good. Thank you so much!

  4. I made a vegetarian version with the cheeses, peppercinis, red and green bell peppers, mushrooms, red onion and a little bit of chipotle mayo on my stovetop grill. It was hard to flip them without them falling apart, making me wish I really had a Foreman grill -- but the sandwiches were fantastic! Seriously, really, really good. Yum.

  5. I really liked this, I never thought to use the Foreman grill to make sandwiches. We used to own a sandwich maker but it was a pain to clean. Anyhow, I made some changes as well. I don't care too much for cheddar on sandwiches and Mozzarella is kinda expensive in a big ball. SO...I used Munster cheese, and provolone cheese. I also used the recommended meats, except for Ham used Virgina Ham cause I dislike regular ham. I left out the peppers and put dill pickle (the oval hamburger ones). Next time I'll omit the pepperoni and salami because #1 I can't taste them and #2 they are wicked fattening. I used a big loaf of soft Italian bread that I love. I ate half of what I made (see photo) with a soda and was STUFFED. At least I know for next time :)

Tweaks

  1. Speedy and impressive! This recipe is really forgiving--as long as you have a mix of meats and cheeses, it's all good. Cooked it on a panini press. We skipped the peppers and did prosciutto instead of ham, and used pepper jack and gouda cheeses. Turned out better than most cafe versions!

  2. have never had a panini before and received a press for xmas so i gave this one a try. was a huge hit! only thing i did different was use olive oil instead of butter, yummy! ok, i made this a second time. this time i included chopped olives and sliced pickles. wow, even better! hubby doesnt like peppercinis, so he had jalepenos instead.

  3. Very easy and a great twist to an otherwise ordinary sub sandwich. Very adaptable to anyone's liking. I made them for my DH and a few friends. Needless to say I had no leftovers. I used my George Foreman grill. I wrapped them in foil after cooking to keep them warm till serving. DH doesn't like sourdough so I just used hoagie rolls instead. Thanks for the great recipe..

  4. FANTASTIC! Good combination. We left out the peppers and subbed mozzarella for provolone.

  5. We loved this sandwich. I used some homemade bread which was fairly substantial and I used mayonaise instead of the melted butter on the outside. That was recommended in another grilled sandwich recipe and it works great. I could only eat half of my sandwich but the two men I dined with each gobbled up theirs. I was glad they didn't want to split my left over half as it made an excellent lunch the next day. It was even good cold!
