  1. This is a delicious casserole which reminds me of the Greek dish pastitsio. I made this exactly as the recipe indicates and served it with garlic bread and a salad- very yummy! My two sons, who were over for diner, "mopped" their plates clean with the bread to get the last delicios bite! This is one that I will definitly make again- great cold weather comfort food! Thanks for posting this, NurseDi!

  2. I've made this a few times and everyone that tried it really liked it. It is a lot of steps, but it's not difficult so don't let that deter you. This is a great recipe.

  3. Alot of prep time and not that big of a payoff. It was good, but not great, especially for all the time that goes into preparing it. The taste was kinda bland. The only strong flavor that stood out was the meat. And even though I followed the directions to the T, the layer after layer repeat, never really worked out, I ran out and never repeated. The quantity didnt fill the dish specified in the recipe. I think there are a few more ingredients that could have gave this dish a stronger flavor.

  4. Very good. My family liked it alot. It was a lot of prep work for me but it really paid off. I really wish I had some crusty bread and some salad to go along with it!

  5. This is good, makes alot. Next time I might add extra cheese. Okay, I made this again tonight(09/27/06). Turned out much better and that's because I actually followed the ingredients. I didn't add the right amount of tomato sauce. All I can say is Delish!

Tweaks

  1. Made quite a bit of pasta. More like 8 servings. The allspice added a bit of a sweet taste. I modified the recipe to be a little more healthy but substituting olive oil for butter and reducing the ground beef to 1/2 pound. Next time I will omit the allspice and add some mozarella in the final assembly.

  2. This dish was absolutely amazing. I changed it around a little bit. I sauteed onions and garlic in a little EVOO then added the meat. And also instead of just grated Parmesan Cheese, I used freshly shredded Parmesan, Romano, and Asiago. It came out amazing. One of the first recipes that I have found on the Zaar that has come out perfect! Thanks!
