Pasta with Spicy Shrimp and Sun-dried Tomatoes

  • Heat 2 tablespoons oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat.
  • Add shrimp and sauté until pink, about 2 minutes.
  • Using slotted spoon, transfer shrimp to medium bowl.
  • Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to same pot.
  • Add shallots, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, garlic, lemon peel, and crushed red pepper.
  • Sauté until shallots are soft, about 4 minutes.
  • Add canned tomatoes and simmer until sauce thickens, about 3 minutes.
  • Mix in basil.
  • Return shrimp and any juices to sauce; stir to heat through, about 1 minute.
  • Meanwhile, cook pasta in pot of boiling salted water until tender, but still firm to bite.
  • Drain.
  • Add pasta to sauce.
  • Toss over medium heat until sauce coats pasta.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Transfer to bowl; top with cheese.

  3. Wow! This dish is one of the reasons why I could eat pasta everyday. I misread the ingredients, thought it was 1-2 tsps of crushed red pepper, so I used 1 teaspoon instead of 1/2. Turned out great! Can't wait to try this with fresh tomatoes instead of canned. Made for ZWT5

This tastes like a gourmet dish... something from a famous Italian restaurant! I used sun dried tomatoes packed in olive oil, and replaced the shallots with chopped red onions. I will definitely make this again. Thanks so much for sharing this.

I came to this site in March of 2004. It was then called Recipezaar. This site was the first on-line site that I ever joined. I first popped in 2003 while searching for a Peach Cobbler Recipe. In March of 2004, DH was having shoulder surgery and I was looking for a Split Pea Soup. Once again I found myself on Zaar as it came to be called. Over the years I hung out and learned from some of the best home cooks in the country, I posted over 700 recipes on the site, reviewed over 3500 recipes and posted over 3000 food photos. Over the next 10 years the site made many changes and in 2010 it was sold to to Food Network and became Food.com. Until last year we played games, talked and shared with one another. As a result of the community and the relationships I built I got to meet some wonderful people from all over the country. I also have a great number of friends that I have never meet face to face. Some of us still hang out at various places across the net. Zaar was more than a cooking community. It was an internet community of friendship. Life is an adventure ever changing.
