- 5 medium apples
- 4 peaches
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 1⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄8 teaspoon ginger
- brown sugar
Directions
- Peel and core apples and cut into chunks.
- Peel and core peaches, and cut into chunks.
- Combine apples, peaches, water, cinnamon, and ginger in a medium saucepan, and place pan over medium heat.
- Cook just until liquid begins to boil, about 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low, stir and simmer fruit until soft, adding more water if necessary, for about 10 minutes for a chunky consistency or 15 minutes for a softer consistency.
- Stir in sugar to taste-the amount will depend on the variety and sweetness of the apple-and cook briefly to dissolve the sugar.
- Mash or blend to desired consistency.
- Cool and serve warm or refrigerate. The applesauce can also be packed into freezer safe containers and frozen.
