"Pretty salad for a quick addition to any meal! Easy preparation! My mother always used this salad as a side and to enhance the meals she would prepare. (Pineapple may be used instead of pears.)"

  1. Oh yes, I too remember my mom making this when I was little. I didn't have her recipe, but when I was grown and married, I made a platter from what I remembered and served it when all the in-laws came. It disappeared in a flash. I did'nt think anyone would like it. I was so wrong.

  2. My Dad would make this when I was growing up.. I thought it was a Mississippi thing! This salad is wonderful!

  3. Shades of the past! My MIL used cottage cheese to fill in the pear hollow, didn't use mayo or cheddar cheese, but had to top with maraschino cherries for pretty. A family fave.

  4. Like the other reviewers, I grew up having this salad often. Ours was exactly like this. I forget about it sometimes, too, but occasionally I send it as part of my husband's lunch. Thanks for posting.

  5. My Mother and Grandmother used to make this salad, they mixed the mayo with a little jam(raspberry) so get the sweet and sour taste. put the Shredded cheese and then top with the mayo and jam mixture. Very good!!!
