  • Mix together in a saucepan, the brown sugar, Karo syrup and butter over low heat. Add the milk and stir. Keep over med. heat, stirring frequently, being careful not to burn. Boil to the soft ball stage. (I always test a small teaspoonful in 1/2 cup cold water. When it holds together in a nice soft, gooey consistency it is ready!) Remove from heat and add the vanilla and chopped walnuts. Pour in a greased 8 x 8 pan or a pan lined with wax paper. Cool until ready to cut.
