  • Heat oven to 350. In medium bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and creamy.
  • Add egg and beat until blended.
  • Stir in flour and salt, then 1/2 cup of the crushed candy.
  • Using 1 tsp dough for each rope, shape one quarter of the dough into 36 4-inch ropes.
  • To make candy cans, twist two ropes together, then bend into candy cane shape.
  • Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake 8 - 10 minutes until firm.
  • Cool on baking sheet 1 minute before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.
  • Repeat with remaining dough.
  • To make icing, stir water into confectioners sugar. Drizzle each cookie with icing. Sprinkle some of the remaining chopped candies.
  • Set aside until icing has set.
