  • Rub your slow cooker lightly with 1 tablespoon butter or margarine.
  • Pour in rice, water and salt.
  • Cover and cook on High 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Note: Up to 4 cups raw rice may be prepared in slow cooker making 10 cups cooked.

  1. This is great! I used 2.5 cups plain white rice with 5 cups of water (that was all the rice I had). I rubbed the slow cooker with some olive oil, rinsed the rice, and put the rice, water and salt in the slow cooker. I also added a cube and a half of organic chicken boullion. I stirred once near the beginning, but then forgot to do it again after. I almost left it in too long, I'll have to remember to set a timer next time. I had it in there for just over two hours. I will definately be doing this again, next time with more rice! Update: I have also made this with brown rice (following the water/rice ratio on the bag) and it worked perfectly! I find this method much better than my rice cooker.

  4. The rice really does come out no different from the rice cookers. But with the benefit of slow cookers having liners, it means zero clean up needed for the slow cooker. I'll only have to wash my eating bowl and utensils. :D
     
  5. Very easy and nice. I followed WiGal and merserdees advice. I used 2 cups of Jasmine rice and 3 1/3 cups water. I added 1 tablespoon of cold butter along with one chicken bouillon cube. I stirred 3 times and mine was finished in 1 1/2 hours on high. I sprayed my crock pot with cooking spray. Thanks Mirj for an easy way to make rice. I will use this again and again.

Tweaks

  1. To cook rice 90 minutes to 210 minutes, that is too long, why not use normal rice cooker, less than 30 minutes. Even mixing rice with mushroom, soy sauce, mirin etc. then cook in less than 30 minutes. No need to suffer from hunger.
     
  2. Love this easy method. I used low sodium chicken broth in place of water. I also doubled the recipe and it worked great.
     
  3. I didn't add salt, but used other things on the rice after cooking (furikake and beans).
     
  4. I followed the recommendations made by mersaydees and happynana, as I was making Jasmine rice, and, when cooking rice, I like to use half chicken broth and half water instead of all water, so I did make that difference when cooking my rice. Unfortunately, like some other reviewers, I, too, got a big sticky mess for the most part. It tasted awesome - my hubby loved it! - but since I'm making it in advance, to freeze, for a party in a couple of weeks, I'm too embarrassed to serve it. I even tried it twice with slight variations and had the same results. I'll have to buy more rice and do it the old fashioned way - on the stove top. I was so looking forward to making my rice this way.
     
  5. This is delicious! I substituted garlic powder for salt and used 4 cups of rice with 3 cups of water. I even put butter on top of the finished dish. Came out awesome!
